There are two types of liberal in this world, and I am not referring to the social/classical divide. The United States, in adopting the state ideology of liberalism, has spawned a new kind of liberal, one who kennas not the philosophical and political thought of the ideology they aspire to promulgate around the world. This is in contrast to the 'enlightened liberal', enlightened here serving as both to mean learned and to suggest kennage of Enlightenment values. The enlightened liberal is always in favour of basic free markets and republicanism (except when capitalism is at stake, where blue turns to brown).
Both liberalisms at the end of it are incorrect, but at least the latter is consistent and not merely borne out of philosophical-political ignorance. We must combat either wherever they pop up. Not Blue or Brown, but Red!
