Federalism: a disjointed union of separate provinces or separate nations under direction of a central shell. It leaves a hollow feeling in one's mind, for that is what it is.

I am no friend nor fellow of anarcho-capitalists, yet even I must concede that they are correct in stating that the United States does not practice capitalism. Real capitalism requires the formation of the nation-state, think like the Commonwealth of New England, a sovereign country with identical culture, economy, and ethnicity throughout.

The United States is not this, it is a hybrid of North-Eastern capitalist dominion, with feudal colonies (which they either erroneously or propagandically call states) surrounding it, to be exploited at will. This is similar to the Federal Republic of Germany's colonization of the German Democratic Republic to destroy its expansive socialist industry and busineß. The idea of the nation-state, that single capitalist entity of imperial unity, is here violated, thus disrupting the changing mode of production. Constitutionally, the capitalists of the North and the aristocrats of the South negotiated a compromise (the North with the knowledge that feudalism could never triumph.

Can federalism ever last? My answer is most certainly not. And what's more, the United States and France have already confirmed this via their constant centralisation of national state authority. The backlash against Mexicans that speak Spanish in the US again signifies that it is on the march to becoming a nation-state.

Why is the nation-state at the heart of capitalism? It is a matter of markets, resources, and imperialism. To provide the capitalist machine with commodities, an initial pool of both labor and material must be acquired. To sell these new commodities, an internal (and tariff free) marketplace must be established. Once the native resources and markets have been completely capitalized upon, it begs neceßity to find new ones, lest overproduction cause a crisis. Here the nation-state is welded together in the interest of silencing resistance at home.
