Tune: Säkkijärven Polkka
Philosopher's Interior translation, circa 2017(?)
Originally printed as 'The Kommißars' Red Polkka', potentially an error.
Eszett and 'Polkka' have been retained in all instances of the name.
Maiming the Fascists all day long,
To think is relaxing would be wrong,
So let us join with voices strong,
In the Kommißar's Red Polkka!
The Finns they gifted us this song,
And every night is what they sung, (or: night the snow it sung)
Fond, we changed to the words and tongue:
The Kommißar's Red Polkka!
Chorus: We took it from the dumb enemy,
We 'stole' it from the bourgeoisie, (or: we made it from the burghers free)
Now it is for all to see,
The Kommißar's Red Polkka!
Interlude: Comrade-Musician, start up the dance,
And the notes of the Polka, must let them sound,
Ahoy, hear it ring, what is happening;
What magic melody have we found?
Comrade-Musician, start up the dance,
And the notes of the Polka, must let them sound,
We may have drawn in the Winter War,
But at least we won this polka!
And when a battle has been lost,
Our comrades, skilled, reduce the cost.
In a field, hear, when sit still paused,
The Kommißar's Red Polkka!
This polka was a bitter thing,
We still aren't sure what is happening,
All we can say is it's fun to sing,
The Kommißar's Red Polkka!
Unofficial Chorus: The Germans with a brain full of brick,
The Hungarians their skulls so thick,
The Italians who stage a trick,
Play a Kommißar's Red Polkka!
